Anabel came to this country from Mexico more than ten years ago. She is an American citizen now.
We met when she became the aide in my fourth grade classroom. At that time her English was a little lower than that of my fourth graders. Time and a lot of self-determination have changed all of that.
In Mexico she was trained as a lawyer. When she left my classroom, she went to work for Rick Romley. Later she became a translator and progressed to a position of advising individuals who need help in satisfying requirements to become American citizens like herself.
She also performs civil weddings for those in need. Today I got to photograph one of the two that she performed in her "angelic' white robes. I will post images from that tomorrow. For now, I just want to acknowledge that people from the other side of the border can succeed if they set their mind to it and just stay the course.
